Songs by key

Most beginning acoustic players gravitate toward a few "guitar friendly" keys — G, C, D, A, and E in major, plus Am, Em, and Dm in minor. The reason is simple: those keys let you use open chord shapes for most of the chords in a song, which means less left-hand work and more clean, ringing notes.

If you're learning to sing while you play, the key matters even more — a song that feels comfortable for your voice in one key may be impossible in another. Use this page to find a song you like, then if it's in the wrong key for your voice, look at putting a capo on the guitar to shift it without changing chord shapes.
